Trey Skjold of troop 403 of Scouting America (Boy Scouts) was looking for a project for his summer Eagle Scout Project that would allow him and a couple of his fellow troop members to learn a thing or two about construction projects at the railroad. Trey contacted the track and asked if there was a need for assisting with any projects. A crew from the track met with Trey and came up with a project. Trey stated "I was informed of an opportunity at the Mill Creek Central Railroad, which my troop had visited on a previous outing for Scouts. I found the railroad interesting and educational, and wanted to give back". The crew selected the construction of a concrete crossing along Lairson Cutoff, where the cutoff ties the Apex barns into the Sutherland block, allowing COALS to safely cross into the old loop without damaging the track. The location, over the past couple of years, has been used for trailer storage. After completion the cutoff was regauged, leveled and ballasted. COALS provided much of the materials and the additional volunteers needed to complete the project. Thanks to Dick for also providing rail and tie materials as well as most of the tools for this project. Many thanks to the Scouts and the COALS volunteers that assisted in the construction, transport of materials and tools needed to complete the project. Trey stated, "The project was challenging, and I learned a lot. Many thanks to all the people at Mill Creek Central Railroad for this rewarding experience".
